About Matt Myers

Matt Myers, MAI, FRICS, is an Assistant Professor, School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society, Heriot-Watt University Dubai. Matt is a seasoned professional with over 35 years of international property valuation experience, encompassing private practice, government, and academia. His career includes teaching at universities and colleges in Australia, North America, Europe, and Asia. Matt holds the prestigious professional designations of MAI from the Appraisal Institute and FRICS Chartered Valuation Surveyor from RICS. He has conducted market feasibility and valuation studies on various property types, with an aggregate value of billions of USD. Additionally, Matt has managed significant property portfolios and urban renewal projects. Matt's research focuses on real estate valuation in developing countries and the South Pacific. He has provided technical and advisory services on property matters to the public and private sectors in the region, including feasibility studies, market analysis, and valuation training. His work has been instrumental in developing land compensation schedules and valuation guides for unregistered lands, contributing to policy development and disaster risk management. Notably, Matt co-authored the UN Habitat's Policy Guide on the Valuation of Informal Settlements and has published papers in the FAO's Land Tenure Journals on valuation in disaster risk management. He has also presented at international conferences, sharing his insights on property valuation and land tenure issues in the South Pacific.
